Transport for London scraps last heritage service of iconic Routemaster buses – Evening Standard

T

ransport for London has completely halted its heritage service of 10 renowned Routemaster buses on the number 15 route. The buses were the last

of the city’s popular open-backed cars in operation, after the other heritage route, the 9H, was retired 7 years ago.The news, which has devastated some on social media, comes more than a year after the UK was

struck with by the Covid pandemic, slashing ridership across London’s transportation network.Another factor for the retiring of the service is the absence of step-free access on the timeless front-engined double deckers, the Guardian reported. The 15H path, which ran in between Tower Hill and Trafalgar Square and was run by Stagecoach London, was not actually required

for capability purposes and it did not supply any distinct links, TfL told the paper.
