Google Chrome will no longer support dusty old computers from the mid-2000s – Chrome Unboxed

Though undoubtedly small, the user base for Chrome users on devices dating back to the early to mid-2000s still exists. The requirement to run SSE3 will not impact macOS, Android, or Chrome OS devices whatsoever as they’ve run this given that 2014 (Chrome 35, Android L), but will impact a small portion of Windows and Linux users running Chrome on dirty old systems. Those affected will get a notice beginning with M87 stating that they need to update in order to utilize Chrome.” Until we require SSE3, Chrome will warn impacted users (with x86 CPUs that do not support SSE3) that their computer systems will quickly be unsupported.
